Tuna agreement

This article was originally published in Foodnews

SOME 22 000 tonnes of duty free tuna loin have been made available to the Spanish fish processing industry, it has been announced. The decision comes after a year of hard negotiations between ANFACO-CECOPESCA and the European Commission. In 2010-2012 some 15 000 tonnes at 6% duties was made available, which the industry claimed was affecting its domestic and international competitiveness. Although this figure does not cover the total raw material needs of the Spanish and EU fish processing industry, ANFACO-CECOPESCA was keen to emphasise that the Spanish authorities had worked extremely hard to improve the amount of raw material available in order to secure the future of the country’s fish processing industry.
