Soft drink firm discloses taxes

BRAZIL’s carbonated soft drinks (CSDs) producer, Refrigerantes Frutty from Minas Gerais, has announced it has altered the labels of its products in order to disclose the amount of taxes included in the recommended retail price. Vladimir Pekic writes : “Frutty took this decision when the government decided unilaterally – as it always happens – to increase the tax burden on the sector,” said Refrigerantes Frutty’s director, Rogério Vilela Silva. He added that a survey of Frutty’s consumers revealed that 100% of the interviewees were not aware of the amount of taxes that they were being charged per bottle of CSDs.
