WEATHER conditions in the Champagne region, France finally improved in August enabling grapes to fully ripen, FOODNEWS has been told. Severe frosts hit the region in April, reducing yield forecasts, followed by cool and humid weather in June which led to erratic flowering and attacks of downy mildew. The overall quality of grapes was very high, displaying a good level of maturity with an average of 10.4% potential alcohol.
