DIFFICULTIES surrounding imports of nuts into Thailand have now been resolved, the USDA has announced. Thai importers had expressed concerns that the department was not issuing phytosanitary certificates for shipments of almonds and pistachios. To resolve the issue, the Thai Department of Agriculture (DOA) worked with USDA officials to sort out any confusion. “Despite bureaucratic challenges, we worked with DOA interlocutors to clarify Thailand’s import regulations and successfully generated an official statement indicating that US almonds and pistachios were not subject to import permits,” the USDA explained. “As a result of FAS/Bangkok’s intervention, exports of US almonds and pistachios to Thailand, valued at USD11 million annually, continued without any disruption.”
