Alaskan MSC expiresThis article was originally published in Foodnews
THE Alaskan salmon fishery’s MSC certification expired at midnight on 29 October, meaning that any fish caught after this date cannot carry the MSC logo. The majority of Alaska’s seafood industry elected to leave the certification programme in January (FOODNEWS 27 January) . The Purse Seine Vessel Owners’ Association (PSVOA) then applied to rejoin the scheme, but they represent a minority of processors. The PSVOA hoped that certification could continue uninterrupted, but the fishery only entered into reassessment in July, and the assessment process usually takes twelve months.
