Canner buys boatsThis article was originally published in Foodnews
TUNA canner, Alliance Select, has bought six new boats in a move towards vertical integration which will reduce its dependence on fish suppliers. The company bought the vessels from deep sea fishing company, BSJ Fishing and Trading, Inc, for the sum of USD15 million. Fish from the vessels will supply the cannery in General Santos City, Mindanao, according to the local press. This comes at a time when tuna canners are, in some cases, struggling to run their factories viably because of the high price of raw tuna (FOODNEWS 7 September) .
