Mango expansion

This article was originally published in Foodnews

INDONESIAN mango production may increase sharply. The local government in Cirebon, West Java, plans to increase the province’s output by adding 10 000 hectares of mango groves to the current planted area of 2 300ha. “The expansion is considered as urgent due to the increase in mango demand from abroad,” the head of Cirebon Agriculture, Plantation and Livestock Husbandry Office, Ali Effendi, told the Jakarta Post . “Currently, our total production has yet to meet international demand.” Most mango grown in the country is sold to the fresh market, though a small amount is dehydrated.
