UKRAINE’s dispute over cheese has so far cost the country USD150 million in lost exports, according to official sources. Russian consumer rights watchdog recently prohibited seven Ukrainian cheese producers from selling their products in Russia (FOODNEWS 24 January) , claiming the products failed to meet Russian standards and contained vegetable fats. Ukrainian producers have dismissed the charges as groundless. Ukraine’s annual cheese exports to Russia are worth about USD500 million.
