Apples are Germans’ favourite fruits

GERMANS eat an average of 26 kilos of apples per year, the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) reports. The figure is based on the 2010/11 financial year and does not include windfalls or private gardening, and the equivalent of around 173 apples. Bananas came in second place, followed by table grapes, according to the Statistical Yearbook for Food, Agriculture and Forestry.
