Dead tuna found

This article was originally published in Foodnews

THOUSANDS of dead tuna found floating in the sea in waters west of Dubai may have been killed by illegal farming methods, website Gulf News reports. Major General Mohammad Al Merri, chairman of the fishermen’s cooperative association of Dubai, explained that inexperienced crew may have used new methods which resulted in catches far larger than their boat’s capacity. Since tuna die if they are unable to move in water for two minutes, many of the excess fish would have died before they could be returned to the water. Al Merri emphasised that further testing would be necessary before the precise cause could be determined.
