Iranian fruit trade slipping

PHILIPPINE banana and pineapple growers have been offered payment in oil rather than currency by Iranian importers, The National reports. The offers came because trade sanctions on Iran, put in place in protest over the country’s nuclear programme, are reducing the Iranian rial’s value. Iran is an important trading partner for these products, taking 7% of the 1.9 million tonnes of bananas exported by the Philippines last year.
