US berry inventoriesThis article was originally published in Foodnews
US INVENTORIES of frozen blackberries and raspberries have risen by 33% and 38% respectively going into 2012, Capital Press reports. Dave Dunn, of Willamette Valley Fruit Co said though it was not an alarming position it had “potential for downward pressure”, but at the same time demand for blackberries has spiked so the rising inventories could be necessary. Henry Bierlink, of the Washington red raspberry commission, told the publication that raspberry consumption had been steady, but was being outpaced by the growth in sales of blackberries and blueberries. He pointed out that it was difficult to draw conclusions from cold storage reports because some of the supplies were already committed to buyers.
