GERMANY’s new food safety warning website, lebensmittelwarnung.de, has been incredibly popular since its launch two months ago, according to the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. The website, which has had 1.6 million hits since it went online, provides users with the product’s details, the reason for the warning, and which of Germany’s states are affected. It also warns about products which are not produced in Germany, but which can be purchased online. Dr Helmut Tschiersky-Schöneburg of the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) said that feedback on the site has been overwhelmingly positive, and the BVL is now intending to set up an RSS feed and an e-newsletter.
