No price increaseThis article was originally published in Foodnews
THREE of Portugal’s biggest distributors have told wine producers that they will not accept price rises next year, at a recent seminar. The meeting organised by the Portuguese Association of Distribution Firms (APED) and the Confederation of Portuguese Growers (CAP), was attended by those responsible for Auchan, Continente and Jerónimo Martins wine purchases. Distributors have defended their position, claiming that any price rise would see consumption decline further following the recession. It was added that there should be fewer brands, with a suggestion that producers should get together for a larger market share.
