Aspartame data made publicThis article was originally published in Foodnews
THE European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has been given access to more than 600 data sets for its re-evaluation of the safety of the low-calorie sweetener, aspartame. Earlier this year EFSA announced it was bringing forward the completion date for its risk assessment from 2020 to September 2012. EFSA has also made available to the public previously unpublished data including the 112 original studies on aspartame which were submitted to support the request for authorisation of aspartame in Europe in the 1980s. The authority said it expected to make further studies and data available once they were received in full.
