Simplot potato plantThis article was originally published in Foodnews
US agri-food company, JR Simplot, is to build a 380 000 sq.ft state-of-the-art potato processing plant in Caldwell, Idaho. Site preparation is expected to begin next May and the facility should come on-line by spring 2014. The plant will replace the company’s original site in Caldwell and “will help Simplot remain competitive in the food industry while providing significant environmental benefits”, the company said. In the next two or three years the company also plans to close facilities at Aberdeen and Nampa, Idaho, resulting in the loss of nearly 800 jobs. JR Simplot did not disclose the investment required for the new build, but said it would be the largest single investment the company has ever made in Idaho.
