Canvironment week

This article was originally published in Foodnews

The week of 10-17 November is Canvironment week. The global initiative is aimed at raising awareness of recycling tin cans. Founded by Hindustan Tin Works, the campaign’s website says: “Due to its unique quality of 100% recyclability, metal cans are the most sustainable package of the future,” and adds: “Due to the high value of the metal it is financially worthwhile to re-use them again and again.” The campaign also endeavours to provide humanitarian aid to India’s rag pickers, people who make a living by picking valuable recyclable goods from municipal waste. It is estimated that these people are responsible for the majority of recycling in India.
