This article was originally published in Foodnews

THE UAE was the top importer of Pakistani mangoes, taking around 20 000 tonnes during July-April 2010/11, according to a Pakistani government official quoted by the country’s News International paper. Sales to the UAE earned PKR487 million (USD5.5 million), a rise of one-third from the same period last year. The UK was in second position, importing over 12 000 tonnes of mangoes, worth PKR419 million, and up from 8 000 tonnes worth PKR273 million. The Saudi Arabian market, however, fell to about 7 000 tonnes of mangoes, compared with some 12 000 tonnes in the same 10 months of the 2009/10 fiscal year. Other markets include Germany, Canada, Belgium, Bahrain, Denmark, Malaysia, Maldives, The Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Qatar, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland and, for the first time, the US (FOODNEWS 11 March) .
