Jellies to smoothies

This article was originally published in Foodnews

BRAZIL's Queensberry, a traditional manufacturer of jellies, is to begin testing its new smoothie made from seven blended fruits on consumers in São Paulo. It is hoped that the smoothie, which contains strawberry, plum, cherry, raspberry, apple, cranberry and pomegranate, will take off in Brazil after similar drinks became popular in Germany, the UK and France. According to the company, most Brazilians think of the US version when they hear the word smoothie, containing fruit sorbet, milk or yogurt. "Instead of creating another cereal bar, which would not add value to the company, we are opening up a new category in Brazil," stated Cristiano de Moraes, commercial director of Queensberry. If the premium smoothie turns out to be successful, Queensberry says it will increase production and open up more sales points.
