Greencore wins UniqThis article was originally published in Foodnews
IRISH food group, Greencore, is to acquire convenience food group, Uniq, for GBP113 million (USD179 million). "It is a good offer from a strong business that provides an excellent strategic fit and, as such, represents the best outcome for employees, pension members and shareholders, as well as an exciting opportunity for Greencore," said Geoff Eaton, Uniq chief executive. Earlier this year, Greencore, which makes sandwiches, chilled prepared meals, sauces and desserts, failed in its bid to merge with Northern Foods, the maker of Goodfella's pizza and Fox's biscuits. The Irish group already supplies ready-made sandwiches to numerous retailers in the UK including Morrisons, Asda and Sainsbury's, while Uniq makes sandwiches for Marks & Spencer.
