Higher salmon prices

ALASKA's canned salmon industry registered increased wholesale prices in January-April this year, according to the Annual Salmon Price Report from the tax division of the state revenue department. Canned salmon makes up the second largest part of the annual pack after frozen. For cases of 'talls' - 14.75 oz, 48 cans - sockeye averaged USD144.88 per case, up from USD113.64/case in the same period last year. Cases of pink salmon were priced at USD78.60/case, compared with USD77.81/case last year and canned chums averaged USD66.27/case, compared with USD55.60 last year. Wholesale prices also increased for canned 'halves' - 7.5 oz cans, with sockeye cases selling for USD78.71/case, compared with USD67.31 in 2010 and pinks averaged USD47.22/case, up from USD45.39.
