TETRA Pak has opened a new plant in São Caetano, Brazil, the first of its kind in Latin America testing how canned foods are preserved in carton packaging, with an investment of BRL1.4 million (USD890 000. Its ultimate aim is to convince food producers to utilise its Tetra Recart packaging solution. The company has said it has already made an agreement with six clients, four in Brazil, one in Argentina and one from Central America to carry out tests. Food sales executive at Tetra Pak, Fernando Varella, said production capacity was up to three lots per day, representing close to 360 cartons. Tetra Pak food cartons are already sold in Brazil for beans or peas and are part of the company's plan for the next few years.
