Pakistan wins Asda contractThis article was originally published in Foodnews
ASDA, the UK supermarket chain owned by Walmart, is listing fresh Pakistani mangoes, following the signing of a deal with the Pakistani High Commission. The fruit will be trialled in 25-30 stores from June to September. Pakistani mangoes have been in UK wholesale and retail markets and ethnic stores for many years, but logistics issues and non-existent or poor traceability and quality standards has meant that they have largely been absent in major supermarkets. Asda is working with IPL, its direct sourcing arm, to bring the fruit in from 15 growers with GlobalGAP certification. The deal comes shortly after Pakistan secured a similar deal to sell fresh mangoes into the US (FOODNEWS 11 March).
