Fraud at Ocean SprayThis article was originally published in Foodnews
A MAN has been convicted in the US of defrauding his former employer, Ocean Spray Cranberries (OSC), of more than USD1.3 million, and then faking his own death (FOODNEWS 18 March). James Repetto was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay restitution of USD1.34 million to OSC. He began a scheme in 1999 along with a co-defendant, Stanley Wheeler, in which they submitted invoices to OSC on behalf of Wheeler's packaging company for services the company never performed. They then split the money. While awaiting sentencing, Repetto pretended to have drowned while swimming off the coast of California, and intended to head for Mexico, but was intercepted by the authorities. Wheeler's sentencing is scheduled for August.
