Fireblight spreads in ItalyThis article was originally published in Foodnews
A WORRYING rise in cases of fireblight has been reported in the northern Italian province of South Tyrol. The bacterial disease first appeared there in 1999 and has mainly affected pear trees up to now, but this year it has become widespread in apple orchards for the first time, Austrian Radio (ORF) reported. The disease can be spread by multiple means and kills blossom and leaves. If it reaches the roots, it kills the tree.
