More Algerian potatoes

This article was originally published in Foodnews

ALGERIA has increased its potato production significantly over the past few years. In 2010 it produced 3.2 million tonnes, 1 million tonnes more than in 2008, and the government has set a target of 4 million tonnes by 2021, according to agriculture minister Rachid Benaïssa. At the opening of the Batatis 2011 trade fair on 10 May, he claimed the growth in production was a result of cooperation between different players in the industry, the introduction of better production and storage techniques, and increased professionalism, Le Maghreb reports.
