PELWATTE Dairy Industries' new LKR1.5 billion (USD13.6 million) powdered milk plant in Moneragala, Sri Lanka, comes on stream on 15 May. The factory uses Danish production machinery and can produce10 tonnes of milk powder daily while also processing 180 000 litres of liquid milk. When fully commissioned, it will account for 15-20% of the country's national dairy milk production. It will also export products, initially to the Maldives where the intention is to gain 20% of the national market for milk powder.
