SPAIN's early potato area has increased by 20.6% this year, compared with 2010. The ministry of agriculture puts the total area at 11600 hectares, reports Ubifrance . The area under extra-earlies has also increased, by 2.4% to 3400ha. This is estimated to produce 75700 tonnes – up 6% on last year. Domestic consumption of potatoes fell by 7.7% last year to around one million tonnes, reports Agroininformación.
