Consecitrus orange payments

This article was originally published in Foodnews

SAO Paulo's Secretary for Agriculture, João Sampaio, has met with representatives of the Brazilian orange sector to create a technical group which will discuss guidelines for payments to growers. Consecitrus, as it has become known, will be run by the professor Alexandre Mendonça de Barros from MB Associados. "Any technical definition will be put up to a referendum before the entities that comprise Consecitrus, whose status will be discussed by us, alongside the work of the technical group," Sampaio said. The group will meet either weekly or fortnightly until a plan has been developed. It is hoped the plan will minimise risks and spread benefits throughout the production chain through mutual agreement.
