Alleged labelling infractionsThis article was originally published in Foodnews
BRAZIL's Department of Consumer Protection and Defense (DPDC) has said that 10 food manufacturers, including Nestlé, Kraft Foods, Pepsico, Arcor, Oetker and Adria, have failed to respect labelling regulations for products containing transgenic ingredients. They will now face administrative proceedings. Tests revealed that ten products contained more than 1% of transgenic maize or soybean including Trakinas biscuits (Kraft Foods), strawberry-flavoured Bono biscuits (Nestlé), Baconzitos Elma Chips (Pepsico Brasil), Nutry cereal bars (Nutrimental) and Salgatta pancake mixture (Oetker). All companies have 15 days to appeal.
