THE GOVERNMENT of the Philippines is actively supporting Spanish dairy giant Grupo Leche Pascual in its plan to establish a EUR20.0 million (USD28.3 million) yoghurt and soya drinks facility in the country that will serve as a base for exports to Southeast Asia. Adam Sharpe writes: Cristino L. Panlilio, the south east Asian country's trade undersecretary, said Leche Pascual officials are still conducting due diligence. He said talks for a possible partnership with San Miguel Corp. are continuing, while Del Monte is also reportedly interested in a joint venture. The trade department said Leche Pascual intends to test the Philippine market by initially importing products before proceeding with a manufacturing plant, reports Business Insight.
