BALL Corporation is to build a new beverage can manufacturing plant in Vietnam to meet rising demand for containers from south-east Asia's growing middle classes. Rob Selby writes: Ball is constructing the plant in Binh Duong province in partnership with joint venture partner Thai Beverage Can Limited, a 50% associated company owned by Berli Jucker Ltd. The one-line facility is expected to begin production in the first half of 2012 and will have an initial capacity of 850 million cans. Raymond J. Seabrook, Ball's executive vice president and chief operating officer of global packaging, said: "The beverage can market in the region is projected to grow more than 15% annually over the next several years. This Vietnam plant fits our long-term strategy to grow our worldwide beverage can business to meet increasing demand from our customers."
