CASHEW nut production in Tanzania increased by 60%, to 120 000 tonnes for the marketing year ended in February, according to the Cashew Nut Board of Tanzania. Board director, Beno Mhagama told Bloomberg that the previous year, 75 000 tonnes were produced. Tanzania had been targeting 121 800 tonnes, and the crop was helped by good weather and sufficient rain, he said. Cashew export earnings last season totalled TZS202.6 billion (USD134 million), up from TZS90 billion in 2009/2010, aided by higher prices, the board said.
