FIVE companies in Spain's western autonomous community of Extremadura have banded together to jointly export their products under a new brand, Vitaolé. Vladimir Pekic writes : fruit trading company Vitaolé, which was set up by private companies Farm Fruit, Naturcrex, Cave, Sol de Badajoz and Acopaex, is also counting on participation from public company Extremadura Avante. The project aims to export around 120 000 tonnes of fruit per year to new markets, primarily in Latin America and the Persian Gulf. Vitaolé president Juan Francisco Blanco said the new exporter would focus on peaches, nectarines, plums, pears, apricots and cherries. Vitaolé, which remains open to the entry of more Extremadura-based companies, controls more than 3 600 hectares of fruit orchards and 13 fruit processing plants.
