Canned vegetable consumption fall claim disputed as plant shuts

THE MARKET for canned vegetables in Europe has fallen by 110 000 tonnes in the past three years, according to French canned food company Bonduelle, which announced on 11 February that it was closing its plant in Westmeerbeek, Belgium. However, the Belgian statistics and economics directorate, FOD Economie, disputed Bonduelle's view in an interview with De Standaard , saying that consumption in Belgium "has been stable since 2000".
