PERU's exports of canned tuna (including tuna and barrilete) jumped by 65.1% in value terms in 2010 to USD10.0 million, compared with the previous year, while in volume terms shipments increased to 2 500 tonnes - a 42.7% increase. Maximixe, a consultancy firm, attributed the growth in shipments to higher demand from Colombia, to whom exports increased 295.7% in volume, Italy (up 243.3%) and Spain (up 3.9%). Sales to the UK also resumed last year, which contributed to boosting shipments. The major exporting companies were Seafrost (63.4% of the total market), Austral Group (30.8%), Seven Stars Corporation (4.2%) and Tecnológica de Alimentos (0.8%).
