Faulty Christmas treatsThis article was originally published in Foodnews
PARANA's (Brazil) Office of Weights and Measures (IPEM/PR) has been testing food products as part of its 'Special Christmas Operation'. A total of 1 861 items were checked, and around 280 shops were inspected, with 17 products rejected because of "quantitative irregularities" and another nine for "packaging faults". Special attention was paid to the most popular festive treats such as panettone, dried fruit and nuts, sparkling and still wine, chestnuts, hazelnuts, walnuts and apricots. "Our objective is to guarantee that the amount of product that the consumer is looking at buying is exactly what it says on the label," said IPEM manager Sergio Camargo.
