EU Council agrees to slice 25% off 2011 West of Scotland quota

NEXT year's EU total allowable catch (TAC) for the endangered West of Scotland cod will be slashed by 25% – falling far short of the 50% that environmental groups were hoping for – agreed fisheries ministers in the early hours of 15 December. West Coast whiting and haddock TACs were cut by the same amount, but there were increases in the TACs for North Sea whiting and herring.
