A ZIMBABWEAN politician has called on the government to establish a tomato canning factory in Murehwa, 75km outside the capital, Harare,The Zimbabwean reported. Ward Nezi, a Zanu (PF) member of parliament, said that instead of farmers travelling the long distance to Harare, tomato canning factories should be established in rural areas, adding that there was adequate infrastructure to do so in Murehwa. A cannery could see the area, which has for years supplied Harare with fresh vegetables and other produce, turn into a leading marketer of tomato paste, canned and frozen vegetables in Zimbabwe and beyond.
