Samoan cannery lease

This article was originally published in Foodnews

AMERICAN Samoa's Governor Togiola Tulafono has called back lawmakers for a special session to approve a land lease agreement between the US territory and Tri Marine International. The 30-year lease will enable the Bellevue, Washington-based company to operate the closed COS Samoa Packing cannery plant. Any lease of government property of 10 years or more is subject to legislative approval. The plant closed in September 2009, costing 2200 jobs. According to the proposed lease agreement, the new cannery company is called Samoa Tuna Processing Inc.
