Cashew season opensThis article was originally published in Foodnews
THE cashew nut commercialisation season has kicked off in Nampula province, Mozambique, with a forecast production of 50 000 tonnes, according to the Noticias newspaper. This year the commercialisation campaign is restricted within individual provinces, with the aim of guaranteeing that wholesale raw material exports begin only after the supply to Mozambique's processing plants is assured. Nampula is the top cashew producing province and the second to begin commercialisation after Cabo Delgado, where it began last week. Zambezia province will be next. This year it is hoped that a production of 96 000 tonnes can be achieved, the same amount as last year.
