Portuguese early potatoes

This article was originally published in Foodnews

Five early potato producer and exporter companies have created the marque "Batata Primor de Portugal" ("Early potatoes from Portugal") in order to promote consumption of their product, writes Nelia Silva . Potatoes bearing the new brandname will be available for export in big bags stamped with the logo. The consortium - comprising Agromais, Campotec, Hortapronta, Primohorta and Torriba - will work with the National Federation of Producer Organisations (FNOP) and entry is open to other producer and exporter companies, be that producer organisations, private companies or others. Increasing the supply capacity for Portuguese early potatoes alongside national and international operators is one of the consortium's main objectives. It is still uncertain how many potatoes will be sold under the new name.
