Pepsi to close bottling plantThis article was originally published in Foodnews
PEPSICO is to close its bottling plant in Merced, California, in early December. The company says it is under-utilised and its operations can be taken up by other facilities, according to Mary Viola, a spokeswoman for PepsiCo Inc. Specifically, there has been a move from soft drinks packed in cans and bottles to PET packs, which the factory cannot handle. The Merced plant was part of Pepsi Bottling Group, which earlier this year was merged into PepsiCo.
