UK supermarket prices for a number of basic canned food products have increased considerably in the past 12 months, according to a survey by mysupermarket.co.uk. The average price of baked beans sold in UK supermarkets has increased to GBP0.87 per can, from GBP0.80/can a year ago, while canned soup has increased on average to GBP1.02/can from GBP0.93/can – a 9% increase. Canned vegetables have increased by 11% on average to GBP0.87/can from GBP0.78/can, while canned fish prices have increased by 10% on average.
