Considerable reduction in US processing harvest

THE 2010 processing production for sweet corn and snap beans in the US will be 3.47 million short tons, down 14% from last year, according to the USDA. Contracted sweet corn production has dropped 16% to 2.73 million tons, while snap bean output has fallen 6% to 736 680 tons. In the state of Wisconsin, sweet corn for processing production is anticipated to total 585 220 tons, down 12% from last year. This decrease is due to a drop in acres harvested, which went to 76 700 in 2010 from 85 700 last year. Contracted snap bean production is forecast at 326 900 tons, which is also down from 351 190 tons last year.
