DANONE Waters China has revealed that it is actively looking to acquire local water brands as it streamlines its focus on the mineral water segment, writes Kathleen Retourné. The French food and beverage giant revealed its intentions after the start of two new production lines at Danone's plant in Longmen, Huizhou, Guangdong province. The plant, with a total investment of up to USD73.4 million, produces mineral water under the Health brand. It is currently a market leader in southern China. The project is expected to be completed within the next three to five years and will have an annual production capacity of 550 000 tonnes, twice the existing volume. Guangzhou-based Danone Waters China has 23 plants in China, with its major brands including Health, Mizone, Robust and Aquarius.
