THE EU is petitioning Thailand to cut its import taxes on alcoholic beverages. Thailand cut to zero tariffs at the beginning of the year for Asean producers under the Asean Free Trade Area, but nearly 75% of all alcoholic beverages imported into Thailand come from the EU. Satit Rungkasiri, the director-general of Thailand's Fiscal Policy Office, said it will "consult with all stakeholders in considering the action, as well as the impact on society, government tax revenues as well as domestic producers".
