Lowest output for four years

CHILEAN peach purée (03/32 brix) production for the 2009/10 season has been estimated at 40 000 tonnes by Chilealimentos, the Chilean Food Industry Association. Neil Murray writes: this is the lowest figure since the poor season of 2005/06, when 26 000 tonnes were produced. A total of 118 000 tonnes of peaches went for puree production. Again, the lowest figure since 2005/06 and down from 185 000 tonnes in 2008/09. The February earthquake was mainly responsible for the declines. A lot of fresh fruit was shaken off the trees. Full details of Chilean production will be found in this year's FOODNEWS Chile Supplement, produced in collaboration with Chilealimentos and to be published soon.
