This article was originally published in Foodnews

UKRAINE's application for membership has been endorsed by WAPA, the World Apple and Pear Association. Making the announcement at the WAPA board meeting during this year's Prognosfruit conference, held for the first time outside Europe - in Kiev, WAPA Secretary General Philippe Binard said: "We are convinced that the Ukrainian membership will further increase the international representativity of the Association and be of great benefit for the growing apple industry in Ukraine." The Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation will represent Ukraine in WAPA. "Ukraine has the potential to become a leading agricultural producer thanks to such natural advantages as geographical location, land, and climate conditions," said Elena Voloshina, Ukraine Country Manager of the Vinnytsya Fruit Supply Chain Development Project of International Finance Corporation (IFC), co-hosts of the conference with the EU's Copa-Cogeca.
