Iceland mackerel value up

ICELANDIC vessels have already taken about 90 000 tonnes (69%) of their 130 000 tonne mackerel quota for the current season, and according to Icelandic media reports, the total export value of mackerel products is expected to be in the region of ISK15 billion (EUR98 million). Most of the catch this season has been frozen for human consumption and this has led to a stark increase in export value compared with previous seasons, when the bulk of the mackerel catch went for meal production.
